Rates reflect eBay.com (US) for most categories as of October 2026. eBay changes its fees from time to time, so confirm yours on eBay's selling fees page. This calculator does not include the lower rate eBay applies above $7,500, insertion fees, promoted listing fees, international fees or income tax.
eBay charges a percentage of the total amount the buyer pays, which is the item price plus shipping plus sales tax. Then it adds a small fixed per-order fee. For most categories without a Store that is 13.6% plus $0.30 (orders of $10 or less) or $0.40 (orders over $10).
| Item price (no shipping or tax) | eBay fees | You receive | Fees as % of price |
|---|---|---|---|
| $10 | $1.66 | $8.34 | 16.6% |
| $25 | $3.80 | $21.20 | 15.2% |
| $50 | $7.20 | $42.80 | 14.4% |
| $100 | $14.00 | $86.00 | 14.0% |
| $250 | $34.40 | $215.60 | 13.8% |
Notice that cheap items lose a bigger slice because the per-order fee is fixed. On a $10 sale you give up about 16.6%; on $100 about 14%. That is one reason sub-$10 items are hard to make money on once shipping is counted.
For most categories on eBay.com in 2026, sellers without a Store pay a final value fee of 13.6% of the total sale amount, up to $7,500 per item, plus a per-order fee of $0.30 on orders of $10 or less or $0.40 on orders over $10. Sellers with a Basic Store or higher pay 12.7% in most categories. Some categories have different rates, so check eBay's selling fees page for yours.
Yes. The final value fee is calculated on the total amount the buyer pays, which includes the item price, shipping and any sales tax eBay collects. That is why free shipping does not avoid the fee: the shipping cost moves into your item price, where the same percentage applies.
It is a small fixed charge added to each order on top of the percentage fee: $0.30 when the order total is $10 or less and $0.40 when it is over $10. It is charged once per order, not once per item.
eBay sets different final value fee rates for some categories, such as certain jewelry, handbags, athletic shoes, guitars and media. Choose Custom in the calculator and enter your category's rate from eBay's selling fees page.
The final value fee is only charged when an item sells. eBay also allows a number of free listings each month, and charges an insertion fee on listings beyond that allowance. Check eBay's current free listing allowance for your account.
Add up what you paid for the item, your real shipping and packing cost and any other costs, then solve for the price at which eBay's fees leave you with exactly zero profit. The calculator does this automatically and shows it as the break-even price. Pricing at or just above that number guarantees you do not lose money on the sale.
